Forty-four percent of voters said they would support the ruling People Power Party (PPP) in next month's general elections, while 49 percent said they would support the opposition to keep the government in check, a survey showed Thursday. The proportion of those supporting the PPP fell 1 percentage point, while those in support of the opposition rose 2 percentage points, according to the survey of 1,001 people conducted by four pollsters from Wednesday to Friday. In terms of approval ratings, the PPP was ahead with 34 percent against the main opposition Democratic Party (DP)'s 29 percent, followed by 10 percent for the Korea Innovation Party led by disgraced former Justice Minister Cho Kuk. On election prospects, 45 percent predicted that the DP would become the No.1 party in the new National Assembly, while 37 percent said the PPP would secure the largest number of seats.
