Cambodian Minister of Public Works and Transport H.E. Peng Ponea received here this morning Mr. Joseph Scheuer, UN Resident Coordinator, and his colleagues. The meeting touched on the cooperation between the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and UN in Cambodia, especially on road safety. Both sides reviewed and discussed the progress of their cooperation, and exchanged views and experiences to further strengthen and expand the cooperation in the future in order to contribute to improving road safety and safer mobility in Cambodia. Recently, the Royal Government has awarded six provinces, including Prey Veng, Koh Kong, Kampong Chhnang, Pailin, Thbong Khmum, and Mondulkiri, for zero road accident during the four-day celebration of Khmer Traditional New Year. During the Khmer New Year holiday from April 13-16, 2024, there were 64 cases traffic accidents, killing 37 people and injuring 88 others. Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet re-appealed to his compatriots to continue respecting the traffic law, and to drive with great caution, responsibility, and adhere to a high level of understanding and tolerance.
