Captained by South Korean star Son Heung-min, Tottenham Hotspur will visit Seoul this summer. South Korean streaming service Coupang Play announced Monday that the London-based Premier League club will participate in the "2024 Coupang Play Series" and face the German giants Bayern Munich at Seoul World Cup Stadium on Aug. 3. Bayern Munich, featuring South Korean defender Kim Min-jae, were invited to South Korea earlier this year. Coupang Play has been hosting European clubs for summer matches here since 2022. Spurs were part of the inaugural series two years ago, with the Spanish side Sevilla and an All-Star team from the domestic K League also taking part. Last year, Premier League champions Manchester City and the Spanish club Atletico Madrid were invited to Seoul. Son and Spurs wrap up their 2023-24 season on Sunday with a 3-0 win over Sheffield United. Son picked up an assist to finish the campaign with 17 goals and 10 assists. He became the sixth player in Premier League history to enjoy three seas ons with at least 10 goals and 10 assists. The Spurs-Bayern showdown will feature two of South Korea's best players today in Son and Kim. They have been mainstays for the national team, and their showdown will be the first Coupang Play exhibition between European clubs pitting one South Korean star against another. Bayern also feature two former Tottenham stars: forward Harry Kane and defender Eric Dier. Kane, in particular, has a substantial following in South Korea as a long-time attacking partner for Son. The duo combined for a Premier League-record 47 goals while they were together for eight seasons. Coupang Play said a K League All-Star team will also be a part of this year's series. The company added that it is awaiting the final approval from the Korea Football Association on the match schedules and venues, and said those details are subject to change.
