The top diplomats of South Korea and Vietnam held talks Friday on ways to boost substantive cooperation in such areas as security, trade, investment and supply chains, Seoul's foreign ministry said. The talks between Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul and his Vietnamese counterpart, Bui Thanh Son, marked the official launch of the bilateral dialogue between the top diplomats of the two countries. The launch of the foreign ministers' talks was part of the agreement reached between the two countries' leaders when President Yoon Suk Yeol paid a state visit to Vietnam in June last year. At the start of Friday's talks, Cho expressed satisfaction that the two countries have been strengthening "friendly, substantive and strategic" cooperation in a broad range of fields. South Korea and Vietnam elevated their bilateral ties to a "comprehensive strategic partnership" in December 2022. Son also chimed in with Cho and said that the cooperation has been expanding from economy, trade, investment and science and technology to national security, as the two countries "continue to build on political trust." After the talks, the two ministers were to have an official luncheon, followed by a walk around the royal Gyeongbok Palace near the foreign ministry. Source: Yonhap News Agency
