Samdech Techo Hun Sen Receives CCCC Chairman

Former Prime Minister of Cambodia, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, on Mar. 28 received Mr. Chen Zhong, Member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau and Chairman of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) Ltd., on the sidelines of the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference 2024 in China’s Hainan province.

In the meeting, Mr. Chen Zhong pledged to do his best for the Funan Techo canal project to be a reality in accordance with the recommendations of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, current President of Supreme Privy Council to His Majesty the King, and Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

The CCCC chairman also informed Samdech Techo Hun Sen about the completion of feasibility study on the construction of Road No. 50C connecting Kampong Thom province to Kampong Chhnang province, and of National Road No. 3 from Kampot to Veal Rinh in Preah Sihanouk province, for about 20 kilometres long.

For his part, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said tha
t the Funan Techo Canal is an important project, which will benefit the Cambodian people and nation.

The US$1.7 billion Funan Techo Canal project, which will be broken ground for construction at the end of 2024, will link Prek Takeo of Mekong River to the sea in Kep province crossing four provinces: Kandal, Takeo, Kampot and Kep with a total of 1.6 million people living on either side of the waterway.

China Communications Construction Company is the parent company of China Road and Bridge, the company that has built the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville Expressway, is constructing the expressway from Phnom Penh to Bavet and has studied the Phnom Penh-Siem Reap and Siem Reap-Poipet expressways, as well as the Funan Techo Canal project.
