PPZ-MAIWP LAUNCHES WAQF CAMPAIGN FOR SURAU, MADRASAH DEVELOPMENT

The Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council-Zakat Collection Centre (PPZ-MAIWP) has launched the 'One Month One Waqf (Endowment)’ campaign, to raise funds for the development and reconstruction of five selected surau and madrasah (religious school) in the Federal Territories.

Its chief executive officer, Abdul Hakim Amir Osman, said that the projects are expected to cost almost RM35.4 million, and the centre still needs another RM33.4 million to realise these special waqf projects.

“This campaign will be held from Aug 1 to Dec 31, this year, where we will take one month to focus on one waqf development project, and we will select five surau and madrasah and will make improvements such as to widen the prayer room or provide facilities which are required by these institutions,” he told reporters, here today.

Abdul Hakim said this after launching the campaign, themed ‘Ikhlas memberi, ganjaran abadi' (Sincere giving, eternal rewards) at Madrasatul Gouthiyyah, Brickfields, one of the selected madrasah, which requires a total of RM6 million for improvements.

Other selected surau and madrasah are Madrasah Hidayatul Mustaqimah Taman Beringin, Jinjang Utara (costing RM913,500); Surau and KAFA Al-Syakirin Keramat Wangsa (RM22 million); Surau Jumaat Al-Hijrah Presint 14, Putrajaya (RM5.7 million); and Surau Muhammad Al-Fatih Kg Batu Muda Tambahan (RM800,000).

“Some Muslims mistakenly believe that waqf can only be done by people who have property and land, when people who are not subject to pay zakat (tithe) can also contribute as little as RM10 a month.

“Unlike giving charity, waqf provides continuous benefits to the public, while other ordinary charity or donation is mostly only limited in its benefits to certain recipients,” he said.

Abdul Hakim also said that this campaign also aims to inform the Muslim community of the services and facilities of cash waqf payment channels, in addition to introducing the PPZ-MAIWP brand as a cash waqf collection institution in the Federal Territories.

“We really hope for the public's support in making this campaign a success, because this is the first year for us to empower waqf in the community.

“Insya-Allah, we will do our best by providing various channels and services to facilitate the affairs of the public to pay zakat and contribute to waqf," he said.

Contributors also have the chance to win special prizes, including Haier 50" Android TV, Samsung Galaxy Tab A8, Samsung Galaxy A24 and G-Shock watches, apart from attractive monthly prizes.

Waqf contributions can be made in cash or bank transfer at PPZ-MAIWP counters; zakat and mobile waqf counters; online at wakafppz.com.my; salary deduction and agents appointed by PPZ-MAIWP such as Tulus, RAIZ and UMobile.
