PETROS, PETRONAS STRENGTHEN COOPERATION IN O and G MANAGEMENT

KUCHING, Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (Petros) will strengthen cooperation with Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) in the management of oil and gas in Sarawak.

This commitment was among the issues discussed by the Sarawak government and Petronas at the Sarawak-Petronas annual strategic dialogue in Kuala Lumpur today.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the dialogue also discussed the Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) initiative and Petronas' Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme in the education sector.

"We also discussed cooperation between Petronas and Petros in managing the oil and gas sector including offshore exploration," he said in a statement issued by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) today.

Abang Johari said Sarawak was also willing to cooperate with Petronas in exploring alternative energy generation besides oil and gas.

"We want to work together beyond oil and gas because we are currently facing climate problems and we have alternative energies such as hydrogen.

"We can discuss together to explore energies other than oil and gas because I think the value of oil and gas will decrease in the global economic context because there are alternative energies that are used by industry," he said.

Joining Abang Johari in the dialogue were Petronas chairman Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh, Petronas president and group chief executive officer (CEO) Tan Sri Tengku Muhammad Taufik Tengku Aziz and Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.
