PEOPLE WANT RAHMAH SALES TO BE HELD MORE OFTEN IN VILLAGES, SUBURBS

BATU GAJAH, People want the government to continue holding Rahmah Sales programmes for the targeted group to help ease their cost of living burden.

They also hope this government initiative will be held more often, especially in suburbs and villages, so that the lower-income group will enjoy much cheaper prices for necessities.

Chan Foo Kai, 58, said although there were long queues at the sales programmes, he does not want to miss out on the opportunity to buy cheaper-priced necessities at the ‘Program Jualan Rahmah Kasih Sayang Parlimen Batu Gajah’ here as the prices are much cheaper and supplies are readily available.

"Even though I get tired of queuing for so long, I am grateful to be able to buy rice, cooking oil, and other necessities at reasonable prices.

"Not to mention that the price of imported rice is rising, but here it is sold below the market price, at RM15 for a five-kilogramme (kg) bag," he said when met at the programme, which was held at the Pusing basketball court from 6 pm to 10 pm yesterday.

Meanwhile, Nurliza Samsul Rijal, 39, who lives in Taman Metro Pengkalan, Pusing, expressed her delight at being able to purchase goods such as rice, condensed milk and sugar at special prices.

"This programme helps reduce my family’s monthly grocery bill. Saving between RM30 and RM50 may not seem like much to some, but it is well worth it to me. I hope the sales programmes will continue next month," said Nurliza, who works as a boutique assistant.

Factory worker S Mathan Rao, 47, who lives in Taman Seri Bemban here, said the programme gave him a chance to buy rice at a reasonable price.

"Even though there is a limit on the quantity per item, such as a two-five-kilogramme bag of rice per person, it is a good measure to ensure that everyone gets their rice supply. We thank the government for holding this sales programme that offers great benefit to consumers like us," he said.

Meanwhile, Tronoh assemblyman Steven Tiw Tee Siang said a total of 19 items, consisting of dry and wet items such as chicken are available at the programme.

"This evening (yesterday), more than 300 people came to shop at the programme.

"This is the fifth time the programme has been organised, and due to the encouraging response, we will continue to hold the Rahmah Sales events in the Tronoh state constituency,” he said.
