KING WANTS EXPLANATION ON COMBAT TRAINING DIVING POOL PROJECT DELAY

KUALA LUMPUR, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia today ordered the parties responsible for the construction of the combat training diving pool at Kem Iskandar, Mersing to explain the reasons behind its delay.

Sultan Ibrahim, who is Colonel Commandant of the Special Forces Group (GGK), said the pool, which was supposed to be fully completed by Dec 2022, is still under construction.

“In fact, yesterday I was informed that the concerned parties had asked for an extension to complete construction six times. Today, I found out that the project’s signboard at the construction site has been demolished.

“Why was it demolished? I want this matter to be clarified by the Johor Public Works Department and the Mersing district engineer,” Sultan Ibrahim said in a statement issued by the Royal Press Office (RPO) on His Majesty’s official Facebook page.

Accordingly, the King ordered the signboard to be reinstalled.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the pool was graced by Sultan Ibrahim in May 2018.

The combat
diving pool is a facility that is much needed by 21 GGK personnel to enhance individual and team competencies, especially in dealing with threats from the maritime domain.

The facility is also equipped with various amenities such as ship mock-up, air entry point and many other basic operational support facilities.
