SEOUL, The Seoul education office has decided to launch an investigation into allegations that Hyun Joo-yub, a former star basketball player-turned-TV celebrity, neglected his duties as a high school basketball coach, officials said Tuesday. Some parents claimed last month that Hyun, the head coach of the basketball team at Whimoon High School in southern Seoul, hired an acquaintance as his assistant coach to train the team, neglecting his own duties due to his TV appearances. Some parents also raised suspicions that Hyun had tried to interfere in the management of the basketball team of the affiliated Whimoon Middle School, where his two sons are players. The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education said Tuesday that it will open an investigation into the case. Education offices can take punitive action if any irregularities are confirmed. "If more details (of irregularity) are discovered in the investigation, the office will take a corresponding measure," an office at the education office said. Source : Yonhap News Agency
