The health ministry requested a police investigation Friday into an online post urging doctors to destroy the country's medical system amid a protracted walkout by trainee doctors in protest of the government plan to raise the country's medical school quota. The post, uploaded at "medistaff," an internet community for doctors, urged the striking doctors to keep staying off the job even after the parliamentary election so as to inflict "huge irreversible damage to the South Korean medical system." The health ministry requested police investigate the post as a direct threat to the people's lives. "To say something like 'let's crush the medical system' could be coming out from someone angry, but if spoken by an incumbent doctor, those very words are a direct threat to people's lives," Second Vice Health Minister Park Min-soo said during a briefing on Friday. On Wednesday, police launched a preliminary probe into another online post from the same online community for disclosing the names and pictures of medi cal professors allegedly involved in convincing trainee doctors to return to work from the walkout.
