South Korean chicken franchise Genesis BBQ said Friday it has opened its second overseas delivery and pickup outlet in Vietnam to establish a presence in the local food delivery market. The BBQ Smart Kitchen store in Hanoi only serves fried chicken and beverages for carryout and delivery. It is the first such outlet in Southeast Asia, the company said in a statement. In May last year, Genesis BBQ opened its first overseas delivery and pickup store in Englewood, New Jersey. The company plans to open more BBQ Smart Kitchen stores in the Southeast Asian country whose food delivery market reached 1.9 trillion won (US$1.4 billion) as of end-2023. "We are planning to make inroads into other Asian markets with the delivery-focused stores depending on market demands," a company official said. Separately from delivery and pickup stores, the company operates more than 2,000 domestic outlets and about 700 overseas stores in 57 countries, including the United States, Canada, Germany, Japan, Taiwan and Costa Rica. Customers can enjoy foods or take them out in those stores. Source: Yonhap News Agency
