SEOUL, South Korea's top diplomat will depart for Belgium late Tuesday to participate in a meeting of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) foreign ministers, his office said. During his three-day trip, Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yul will attend the session of NATO allies and its partners Thursday, the ministry's spokesperson, Lim Soo-suk, told a regular press briefing. Cho is expected to discuss the current security situation in the Indo-Pacific region and express Seoul's commitment to strengthening cooperation with NATO, Lim said. South Korea was invited to the ministerial meeting for the third year as one of the non-NATO partners in the Indo-Pacific region, which include Japan, Australia and New Zealand. The upcoming gathering will be attended by NATO allies and its partners, as well as Ukraine and the European Union, to discuss the Ukrainian war and other security challenges. Separately, Cho will meet with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and hold bilateral talks with the foreign ministers of other major countries. Cho is unlikely to meet his Japanese and Australian counterparts as they are said to be skipping this week's NATO meeting. Source: Yonhap News Agency
