MELAKA, A total of 122 people have been evacuated to three temporary relief centres (PPS) in the state as of 8 am today after their homes were hit by floods following heavy rain yesterday afternoon. State Disaster Management Committee secretariat Lt Col (PA) Kamarulsyah Muslim said a relief centre in Melaka Tengah district was opened in Dewan Japerun Ayer Keroh at 11 last night to house 12 people from two families. 'In Alor Gajah, 72 people from 25 families were evacuated to Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Durian Tunggal while another 38 people from seven families were accommodated at Balai Raya Bukit Balai. 'Among the affected areas in the Alor Gajah district are Kampung Bukit Tambun, Kampung Parit Melaka, Kampung Bukit Balai, Taman Murai Jaya, Kampung Padang Keladi, Kampung Belimbing Dalam and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil Durian Tunggal,' he said in a statement today. Kamarulsyah said that for the Melaka Tengah, the affected areas are Kampung Sungai Putat, Taman Melawis Bukit Beruang, Taman Ayer Keroh Height s and Kampung Enam. He said the areas were flooded due to heavy rain at 4 pm yesterday which had caused river water to overflow in residential areas and roads. Source: BERNAMA News Agency
