South Korea's latest parliamentary election results will have no significant impact on its foreign policy line, including trilateral cooperation with the United States and Japan, a foreign ministry official said Thursday. The crushing defeat of the ruling party in Wednesday's parliamentary elections is also "unlikely to have significant impact" on South Korea's relations with Japan and Seoul's diplomatic position on other issues, according to the official. President Yoon Suk Yeol has stressed the importance of improving bilateral relations with Japan to address the threat of North Korea's nuclear weapons program, including through trilateral cooperation with the U.S. The main opposition Democratic Party won 161 out of 254 directly contested seats, while the PPP won only 90 seats in the April 10 elections.
