China Supports Cambodian Mine Action with New Project

Phnom Penh: China-financed Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Project on Mine Action in Cambodia launched on June 17 will directly benefit 723 families with mine-free land and 55,111 families in targeted areas with safety and development opportunities. Senior Minister H.E. Ly Thuch, First Vice President of the Cambodian Mine Action and Victim Assistance Authority (CMAA), chaired an official event at the CMAA headquarters to launch the project, under the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Special Fund.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Senior Minister highlighted that the cooperation between Cambodia and China in mine action is not limited to mine clearance and humanitarian efforts. It also represents a pathway towards shared prosperity, peace, and enduring friendship between the two nations and their peoples. H.E. Ly Thuch stated that the project aims to transform Cambodia's land contaminated by explosive ordnance into safe land for livelihood development.

He further noted that the initiative fosters the exchange of skills, knowledge, and technical experience among countries affected by explosive ordnance, particularly those in the Mekong-Lancang region.
