Phnom Penh: Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has expressed his support for the development of 5G mobile phone services in the country. During the Closing Ceremony of the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications (MPTC) meeting, held at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel, which aimed to review the five-year achievements (2020-2024) of digital transformation, Prime Minister Hun Manet requested the MPTC to develop a comprehensive master plan for 5G services.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasized the importance of setting a suitable timeline for the implementation of 5G services as part of the Royal Government’s telecommunications sector development process. He highlighted the need for all relevant ministries to collaborate and treat telephone and internet services as essential services, akin to electricity and clean water.

H.E. Chea Vandeth, the Minister of MPTC, noted that Cambodia’s current mobile phone service operates on a 4G network, covering approximately 82 percent of the country’s territory. There are over 20.6 million mobile and landline phone registrations in Cambodia, with nearly 19 million internet subscribers.
