Cambodian and Malaysian Leaders Look for More Cooperation

The leaders of Cambodia and Malaysia shared their expectation for a deeper cooperation during their bilateral talks on the sidelines of the 43rd ASEAN Summit in Jakarta, Indonesia this afternoon.

Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia and H.E. Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia also discussed ways to further enhance the cooperation between both nations in the fields of politics, trade, investment, education, energy security, employment, and prevention and fight against transnational crimes and cybercrime.

In the field of energy security, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet requested his Malaysian counterpart to support the building of the subsea power transmission cables, which need to cross the sea border of Malaysia, as part of the green power trade project between Cambodia and Singapore.

H.E. Dato’ Seri Anwar bin Ibrahim congratulated Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet on his appointment as the Prime Minister of Cambodia and believed that the relations and cooperation between the two countries will continue to sustain well and grow further.

The Malaysian Premier also expressed his admiration for Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Supreme Privy Council of His Majesty the King, who is a good friend of Malaysia and himself.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet expressed his gratitude to the Government of Malaysia for supporting Cambodia’s candidacy for the membership of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for 2028-2030 and of the Organisational Committee of the Peacebuilding Commission (OCPBC) for the 2025-2026 within the framework of the United Nations.
