Cambodia to Achieve Carbon Neutrality Goal by 2025, Says ADB Vice President

H.E. Ms. Fatima Yasmin, Vice-President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) is confident that Cambodia will be able to achieve her carbon neutrality goal by 2050 through the launch of inclusive and climate resilient policies and initiatives.
The ADB vice president expressed her conviction when she led delegates of the 6th Greater Mekong Subregion Environment Ministers’ Meeting (GMS EMM-6) to pay a courtesy call on Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet at the Peace Palace here this afternoon.
H.E. Ms. Fatima Yasmin emphasised that the ADB will continue to support and actively engage with the GMS countries, including Cambodia, to jointly address climate change and ensure environmental sustainability.
She also thanked Cambodia for the smooth organisation of the GMS EMM-6 on Sept. 13 and commended the Kingdom for successfully hosting two GMS EMMs so far.
In reply, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet welcomed the fruitful outcome of the GMS EMM-6, which will contribute to promoting the cooper
ation within the GMS framework for a greener and more sustainable future.
The Premier thanked the ADB for its support to the GMS and Cambodia and for facilitating regional cooperation in environmental protection and sustainability efforts, underlining that environmental issues are common challenges that require joint cooperation from all stakeholders.
At the same time, Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister mentioned about the Royal Government’s priority policies and initiatives for environmental protection in a sustainable, resilient and inclusive manner, such as the carbon neutrality policy 2050 to increase the use of renewable energy to 70 percent by 2030, promote the campaign to plant 1 million trees per year, stop issuing new licenses to coal-fired power plants, and launch policies to boost the development of Cambodia’s electric vehicle sector.
GMS countries include Cambodia, China, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.
