Air Force to join multinational exercise in UAE

SEOUL, The Air Force said Tuesday it will join a regular multinational exercise hosted by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this month as part of efforts to hone combined operational capabilities.

The Desert Flag exercise will take place at Al Dhafra Air Base in the UAE from Friday through May 10, involving personnel from 10 countries, such as the United States, Britain and France, according to the Air Force.

A team of 30 Air Force service members, including combat control team personnel tasked with special operations, boarded a C-130H transport aircraft to join the exercise earlier in the day.

During the exercise, South Korean troops will train in low-altitude infiltration and cargo drop operations, tactical landing operations and ways to boost operational capabilities in electronic warfare, according to the Air Force.

It said it expects to improve its operational understanding of desert environments and the Middle East region through the exercise, and check its emergency deployment capabilities.

It marks
the second time the Air Force will take part in the exercise, after participating in it for the first time last year.
