Agriculture Minister Stresses Intellectual Property to Boost Value of Cambodian Agri-Products

Siem Reap: H.E. Dith Tina, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries, underscored the significance of intellectual property registration in increasing the value of Cambodian agricultural products during the World Intellectual Property Day 2025 celebration, held on May 5 in Siem Reap province.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the event was themed 'Intellectual Property and Music' and was presided over by H.E. Mrs. Cham Nimul, Minister of Commerce and Chairperson of the National Committee for Intellectual Property (NCIP). The event also saw the presence of H.E. Hem Vanndy, Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation, and H.E. Igor Driesmans, Ambassador of the European Union to Cambodia.

H.E. Dith Tina expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Commerce for launching the event, highlighting its role in raising public awareness of intellectual property rights on a global scale. In his address, the agriculture minister identified intellectual property as a key focus for the ministry, particularly within the agricultural sector.

He emphasized that by registering intellectual property for Cambodian plant varieties, agricultural products can achieve higher added value and encourage local processing and branding. H.E. Dith Tina also conveyed appreciation to development partners for their support in promoting and protecting Cambodian agricultural products, especially geographically indicated (GI) products like Kampot pepper, Kampong Speu palm sugar, and Koh Trong pomelo.

Furthermore, H.E. Dith Tina reiterated his commitment to the protection of Cambodian product IP and encouraged continued development and value-added processing to enhance the competitiveness of Cambodian agricultural goods.
