SEOUL, A total of 13 former and active professional baseball players have been booked and are under investigation in connection with drug charges involving former baseball player Oh Jae-won, the Seoul police chief said Tuesday. Prosecutors earlier indicted Oh, a former Doosan Bears player, on charges of habitually using methamphetamine and psychotropic medications since 2022 and threatening an acquaintance who attempted to report his drug use to the police. Oh was also charged with illegally obtaining sleeping pills by having acquaintances get prescriptions. The Doosan Bears club conducted an internal inquiry, in which it found that eight of its players had delivered their prescribed sleeping pills to Oh, and reported them to the Korea Baseball Organization. During a press briefing Tuesday, Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency Commissioner Cho Ji-ho said that police have identified five more former and current baseball players who may be implicated in the case. Including them and those identified by Doosan, 13 former and current baseball players have been booked for investigation on suspicion of providing their prescribed sleeping pills to Oh, the Seoul police said. Police will consider whether any of those booked were coerced into delivering the drugs to Oh when making the final decision for legal action, he said. Source: Yonhap News Agency
