Yoon vows to turn North Jeolla into ‘bridgehead’ for nation’s cutting-edge industries

President Yoon Suk Yeol vowed Thursday to turn the province of North Jeolla into a "bridgehead" for the country's cutting-edge industries. Yoon made the pledge during a public policy dialogue held in Jeongeup, 217 kilometers south of Seoul, outlining plans to push for a national industrial complex specializing in the hydrogen sector in Wanju and an agricultural cluster encompassing the regions of Gimje and Iksan. "I will turn North Jeolla into a bridgehead for the Republic of Korea's cutting-edge industries," he said, noting that the envisioned industrial complex in Wanju will include a reliability testing center for commercial hydrogen vehicles and other infrastructure for the hydrogen car ecosystem. "In Gimje and Jangsu, we will create a 24,000-pyeong leasable smart farm to support young people's business launches, create the second-stage national food cluster to foster future promising food industries and swiftly push for the designation of an agricultural zone," he added, using a Korean unit equal to a bout 3.3 square meters. Yoon also noted that North Jeolla boasts excellent cultural and tourism resources, such as the Jeonju Hanok Village and Namwon crafts, and promised to help further develop the region's cultural contents by designating Jeonju, Gunsan and Namwon as a cultural industry promotion district by next year.
