President Yoon Suk Yeol on Thursday approved the appointment of Shim Woo-jung, former vice justice minister, as the new prosecutor general, his office said. The approval was made without the National Assembly's adoption of a confirmation hearing report as the parliamentary judiciary committee has been in a deadlock due to political strife between the rival parties. Shim, 53, was tapped as the new prosecution chief last month. Shim passed the national bar exam in 1994 and joined the Seoul Central District Prosecutors Office as a prosecutor in 2000. Since then, he served in senior positions in the Seoul prosecutors' office, the justice ministry and the Supreme Prosecutors Office. Meanwhile, Yoon also approved the appointment of a new Constitutional Court Justice Kim Bok-hyeong. Source: Yonhap News Agency
