Winning Political Parties Support Official Election Results

The political parties that won seats in the 7th legislature of National Assembly have voiced their support for the free and fair election through their respective statements released after the announcement of the official election results by the National Election Committee (NEC) this morning.

In its statement, the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) acknowledged a great and independent duty done by the NEC in organising a free, fair, safe, and non-violent election with 84.59 percent voter turnout—the highest in Cambodia’s election history—and thanked observers of 65 nationalities from 61 institutions who joined the monitoring of the election process.

According to the election results, the CPP got 82.30 percent of the total valid votes during the July political race, allowing the party to form a new government to lead the country for the next five years.

The results clearly reflect that Cambodian people support CPP’s right leadership, Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, and H.E. Dr. Hun Manet who is the party’s successor for the Prime Minister role, wrote the statement.

It continued that the 7th mandate government to be formed shortly with H.E. Dr. Hun Manet as Prime Minister will continue to strengthen national solidarity and implement the political agenda promised in order to respond to the people’s trust.

The statement also called for national unity under the roof of the Cambodia Constitution and under the auspices of His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni and Her Majesty Queen-Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk.

For its part, the royalist FUNCINPEC Party also announced to accept the official election results, stressing that the 7th National Election on July 23, 2023 was held in an acceptable political environment.

FUNCINPEC also spoke highly of the high voter turnout and the nearly-one-million votes for its President Prince Norodom Chakravuth.

FUNCINPEC expressed its gratitude to Prince Norodom Chakravuth for his leadership in bringing about proud achievements for the party with strong internal solidarity and unity.

At the same time, the royalist party reaffirmed to use the votes gained to serve and protect the national interest, and pledged to bring the people’s concerns to the National Assembly through their newly-elected lawmakers.

According to the official results, CPP won 6,398,311 of the total 7,774,276 valid votes, or 120 of the 125 National Assembly seats, while the FUNCINPEC Party earned 716,490 votes or the remaining 5 seats.
