UTP, LUMILEDS SIGN MOU TO ENHANCE ACADEMIA-INDUSTRY COLLABORATION

IPOH: Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) and Lumileds Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Lumileds) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance academia-industry collaboration and foster innovation between the two institutions.

UTP, in a statement, said the collaboration aims to span several areas, including the joint organisation of seminars, talks, and forums, the appointment of adjunct lecturers, staff mobility, student internship programmes, and other projects for the mutual benefit of both institutions.

Signing the MoU on behalf of UTP were its Vice Chancellor Professor Datuk Ts Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib, while Lumileds was represented by its Human Resource Director Deric Chew.

Meanwhile, former UTP Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Associate Professor Ir Dr Rosdiazli Ibrahim and Lumileds Technology Integration Director Dr Sam Ong Teng San were the second signatories.

According to Mohamed Ibrahim, UTP is delighted to formalise the collaboration with Lumileds through this MoU.

artnership opens exciting opportunities for joint research, knowledge exchange, and industry engagement.

‘By joining forces with Lumileds, we aim to create a dynamic ecosystem where academic expertise and industry experience converge to address real-world challenges and drive impactful outcomes,’ he said.

Meanwhile, Deric noted that the highly educated and motivated work force in Malaysia has been a key to success for Lumileds and is essential for future endeavours.

‘We appreciate and are excited to embark on this new initiative with UTP,’ said Deric.

The MoU builds upon a strong foundation established between UTP and Lumileds two years ago.

Since then, UTP and Lumileds have collaborated on various impactful projects, including staff attachment programmes and securing an international collaborative research fund project to support ongoing research efforts.

Additionally, Lumileds has played a crucial role in promoting UTP’s postgraduate programmes, fostering academic and professional growth opportunities
for both institutions.
