KANGAR, The Perlis State Legislative Assembly was told today that the state unemployment rate in the first quarter of 2024 is at 2.0 per cent or a total of 2,400 people based on statistics from the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM). State Housing, Local Government, Human Resources Development, and Poverty Eradication Committee chairman Asrul Aimran Abd Jalil said it was the same number of Perlis job seekers registered on the Social Security Organisation's (Perkeso) MYFutureJobs Portal from January to July 5. In that regard, he said Perkeso and the state government are trying to stimulate the labour market in Perlis and reduce the unemployment rate through a number of initiatives, including providing a job search platform on the MYFutureJobs Portal to match qualifications with the type of job offered. He said technical vocational education and training (TVET) graduates are also connected to suitable jobs according to their qualifications via the Career Bridge Tool System, with 452 active job vacanci es advertised in Perlis. '(The initiative also involves) developing a Wage Guide System that plays a role in helping TVET graduates identify and measure their potential and make the right career choice,' he said in response to a question from Fakhrul Anwar Ismail (PN-Bintong) during the question-and-answer session today. Fakhrul Anwar wanted to know the latest unemployment rate in Perlis, the measures taken to reduce the rate, and the extent of the success of these measures. Source: BERNAMA News Agency
