U.S. Embassy Releases Khmer New Year Video Celebrating Cambodia’s Unity and Resilience

The U.S. Embassy in Phnom Penh on April 12 unveiled this year’s Khmer New Year video to celebrate the annual holiday.

The 2024 Khmer New Year video features ‘Krama to the Future,’ a cultural adventure depicting U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. W. Patrick Murphy and Embassy personnel who journey through time to the 14th century of the Angkorian Period, said the Embassy’s press release.

‘To return to the present in time to celebrate the New Year, Ambassador Murphy and friends must learn to weave krama, the iconic Cambodian scarf that has become a symbol of unity, resilience, and versatility. They are assisted on their journey by an Apsara, a celestial being from Khmer mythology, played by Chumvan Sodhachivy (Belle), an alumna of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP),’ it added.

Produced in partnership with Chef Nak Productions, the video features the music of D-Man and SmallWorld SmallBand.

‘U.S. Embassy Phnom Penh wishes our friends in Cambodia and across the world
joy, prosperity, and health in the Year of the Dragon!’ it pointed out, adding that the full video can be watched at
