KUALA TERENGGANU, The Terengganu State Government is prepared to face the possibility of floods in the state with the impending Northeast Monsoon (NEM) phenomenon, which is predicted to arrive soon.

Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said a meeting was recently held by state authorities in preparation for the disaster.

He said that his team had also been briefed by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) and the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) during the meeting.

‘This includes when the NEM is expected to arrive and the potential risks. Insya-Allah, we are ready. We face the same situation every year,’ he said after attending the closing ceremony of the Terengganu Local Council Members Seminar for the 2024-2026 term, here, today.

Earlier, State Disaster Committee deputy chairman Hanafiah Mat was reported to have said that RM4.2 million had been allocated to face the NEM, which was expected to start next month, including an allocation of RM2.2 million ch
annelled by the federal government for the purchase of various essential items and food for flood victims.

So far, Kedah is the only state still affected by floods, with 633 victims from 212 families currently sheltering in 10 temporary relief centres as of 8 am today.
