MIRI, Despite fielding a smaller silat squad, Perlis wants to make a powerful impact at the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA), which officially begins on Saturday. Perlis silat head coach Mohd Sobri Hashim is optimistic about his homegrown exponents making a mark in Sarawak. While there are only 13 exponents in the mix, Sobri believes his charges can secure two gold medals. 'Our team might be small, but our resolve is huge. Based on their performance at the Sarawak International Premier Silat Championship 2023, we're confident in challenging for medals. 'We're targeting one gold each in 'silat seni' and 'silat tanding', though we hope to exceed this target,' he told Bernama. The squad comprises nine exponents in 'tanding' and four in 'seni' with Sobri confident his exponents are in peak form and ready to excel at the Miri Indoor Stadium during the competition from Aug 18 to 23. Perlis' silat squad secured one gold and two bronze medals at SUKMA 2022 in Kuala Lumpur. This year, 28 gold medals are on offer for silat. Source: BERNAMA News Agency
