KUALA LUMPUR, A strong earthquake, measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale, struck the Mariana Islands region at 7.36 pm today. The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said in a statement that the epicentre of the earthquake was located at 17.1 degrees north and 147.2 degrees east at a depth of 112 kilometres (km), 2,156km southeast of Yokosuka, Japan.
