South Korean chipmaker SK hynix Inc. on Friday expressed condolences to Taiwan over a deadly earthquake that hit the east coast of the island nation this week. SK hynix CEO Kwak Noh-jung issued a condolence statement, saying the company wishes for the health and safety of those affected by the quake, and pledged to assist the country recover from the damage as quickly as possible. Kwak underscored the importance of Taiwan to his company, stating that it has many partners in Taiwan cooperating in various fields involving semiconductors. South Korea and Taiwan have in place a complementary relationship in the chip industry as leading nations in both memory and nonmemory semiconductors. According to the Korea International Trade Association, South Korea exported $US3 billion worth of memory semiconductors to Taiwan last year. Source: Yonhap News Agency
