The Seoul city government will host a variety of street art festivals and traditional culture programs in the capital during the extended Chuseok holiday, city officials said Saturday. From Monday through Wednesday, the annual Seoul Street Art Festival will feature street performances, including plays, dances, traditional theater and circus, near the Cheonggye Stream in central Seoul. Another street event, the Seoul Gugak Music Festival, will showcase traditional Korean music near Donhwamun Gate on Tuesday and Wednesday, featuring gugak musicians and dancers of all ages. The city will also offer an assortment of cultural experience programs related to the traditional holiday. At Namsangol Hanok Village in central Seoul, a Chuseok entertainment program will run from Sunday to Wednesday, featuring performances such as the traditional Ganggangsullae group dance, the traditional ancestor-honoring ceremony known as "Charye" and the distribution of traditional liquor. From Monday through Wednesday, another ev ent at Unhyeon Palace, also in central Seoul, will greet visitors with traditional performances, experience programs for traditional games and the distribution of songpyeon, a sticky rice cake which is a Chuseok delicacy. Donuimun Museum Village will host a bazaar event on Saturday and Sunday, and provide a gugak performance Tuesday. Throughout the extended holiday, the city will also open its outdoor library program at Gwanghwamun Square and along the Cheonggye Stream from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Gwanghwamun Square event will also include an outdoor movie screening at night from Monday to Wednesday. The city will also keep major city-run cultural facilities, such as the Seoul Museum of Art and the Seoul Museum of Craft Art, open to the public throughout the holiday. Source: Yonhap News Agency
