Seoul-bound traffic congested on final day of Chuseok holiday

Seoul-bound traffic on major expressways remained congested Wednesday, the final day of the extended Chuseok holiday, the expressway operator said. Chuseok, which fell on Tuesday this year, is the autumn harvest celebration, during which people head to their hometowns to get together with family members and relatives, and visit their ancestors' graves. The Chuseok break runs for five days from Saturday to Wednesday. As of 8 a.m., the estimated travel time from the southeastern city of Busan to Seoul was five hours and 20 minutes, and four hours and 20 minutes from the southeastern city of Daegu, according to the Korea Expressway Corp. (KEC). The KEC said 5.84 million vehicles are expected to hit the roads Wednesday, including 410,000 traveling from the Seoul metropolitan area to other provinces and 500,000 traveling from other provinces to the broader Seoul area. The KEC said it expected inbound traffic to Seoul to peak at about 3-4 p.m. before easing at 11 p.m. Source: Yonhap News Agency
