Senate President Commends Japan’s Role in Cambodia’s Development


Phnom penh: Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, President of the Senate of Cambodia, received visiting H.E. TANAKA Akihiko, President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), at the Senate Palace this afternoon.



According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, during the courtesy meeting, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his pleasure in meeting H.E. TANAKA Akihiko again, recalling their previous encounter ten years ago when the latter visited Cambodia to inaugurate the Neak Loeung (Tsubasa) Bridge in 2015.



Samdech Techo highly appreciated Japan’s continued assistance in Cambodia’s development, stressing that the Kingdom’s peace and progress cannot be separated from Japan’s steadfast support and contribution. He also briefed the JICA President on the current Cambodia-Thailand border situation, reaffirming Cambodia’s consistent position to resolve all border-related issues peacefully and restore normalcy.



In response, H.E. TANAKA Akihiko commended Cambodia’s rapid development and recalled Japan’s role in the construction of major infrastructure projects in the country. He also lauded Cambodia’s growing contribution to international demining efforts and underlined JICA’s commitment to further strengthen cooperation with the Royal Government of Cambodia.



Regarding the border issue, H.E. TANAKA expressed hope that both sides will achieve a peaceful resolution soon and that bilateral relations between Cambodia and Thailand will soon return to normal.
