Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co. on Monday reported its first-quarter net profit of 186.5 billion won (US$135.2 million), up 57.9 percent from a year earlier. Operating profit for the January-March period was 180.3 billion won, up 28.7 percent from a year ago, the company said in a regulatory filing. Sales rose 29.8 percent to 2.62 trillion won. The earnings beat market expectations.
