Samdech Khuon Sudary Leads High-Level Parliamentary Delegation to Hungary

Budapest: Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, led a high-level parliamentary delegation to pay an official and friendly visit to Hungary on Thursday evening, at the invitation of Hon. Mr. L¡szl³ K¶v©r, Speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the visit aims to further strengthen and deepen the long-standing friendship, solidarity, and cooperation between the two countries, while serving as a milestone ahead of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026.

Hungary has long been a trusted friend of Cambodia, having extended valuable support to Cambodia’s reconstruction and development following its liberation on Jan. 7, 1979. Built on mutual trust, respect, and shared interests, relations between the two nations continue to flourish through both legislative and executive bodies.

Over the years, leaders of both countries have maintained regular exchanges to promote bilateral understanding and cooperation. In 2019, Samdech Techo Hun Sen, former Prime Minister and current President of the Senate, paid two official visits to Hungary, while Hon. Mr. J¡nos , then President of Hungary, also led a delegation to Cambodia. Earlier this year, Hon. Mrs. Marta Matrai, First Deputy Speaker of the Hungarian National Assembly, visited Cambodia.

During the current visit, Samdech Khuon Sudary will hold courtesy calls and bilateral talks with Hungarian leaders, including Speaker L¡szl³ K¶v©r. Both sides are expected to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two National Assemblies and their respective Secretariats-General to strengthen bilateral and multilateral parliamentary cooperation.

Following this visit, His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni, King of Cambodia, is scheduled to pay a state visit to Hungary in early 2026, further symbolising the growing friendship and partnership between the two nations.

As scheduled, after concluding the four-day official visit to Hungary, Samdech Khuon Sudary will lead the delegation to participate in the 8th Edition of the Paris Peace Forum in Paris, France, from Oct. 29 to 30, 2025.
