Cambodia’s rural clean water coverage rate has reached 83.3 percent while that of rural sanitation has risen to 86.6 percent.
The figures were shared in a report released at a meeting on clean water supply and rural sanitation strategies to achieve the full coverage by 2030.
According to the report, the provinces of Svay Rieng, Prey Veng, Kandal, Kampong Speu, Kampong Chhnang, and Kep have already obtained the open defecation free status.
Six other provinces, including Preah Sihanouk, Kampong Cham, Thbong Khmum, Rattanakiri, Siem Reap and Kampong Thom, and Phnom Penh capital will officially declare open defecation free in the near future.
In the closing ceremony of the annual meeting of the Ministry of Rural Development held here in late March, H.E. Minister Chhay Rithisen pointed out that there have been more than 2,58 million family toilets and 10,322 public toilets across the country.
