The assigned restoration team is making significant progress in re-erecting the southern stairs and lion statues of Phnom Bakheng Temple.
According to a statement released by the APSARA National Authority on July 15, the work is a collaboration between the authority and the New York-headquartered World Monument Fund.
Mr. Van Va, the head of the Phnom Bakheng Temple site, updated that the restoration on the five-level staircase structure is now 80 percent complete as of mid-2024.
Only five of the twelve lion statues have been repaired so far as others have been severely damaged, he added.
The lion statues were previously restored during the French era.
