PSIS CHAMPS FOR FIFTH CONSECUTIVE TIME OF FIRA MALAYSIA CUP


IPOH, Sultan Idris Shah Polytechnic (PSIS) managed to retain the title five times in a row when they were crowned overall champions of the 17th FIRA Malaysia Cup 2024 tournament which took place here from April 21-26.

PSIS achieved the quintuple feat narrowly by collecting six gold, six silver and three bronze medals in various categories, overcoming 27 other challengers.

‘Port Dickson Polytechnic (PPD) were pipped to the crown and had to settle for runner-up position with a tally of six gold, two silver and four bronze medals while third place went to Pahang’s Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Polytechnic (POLISAS) with three gold, two silver and seven bronze medals.

‘A total of 978 participants from 27 polytechnics and community colleges (POLYCC) nationwide participated in nine contested categories, namely Simurosot, AiBot, HuroCup, MyBot Youth, Robosot, Androsot, Air Drone, Business and Innovation and Autonomous Car Challenge,’ according to a statement issued by the Department of Polytechnic Education and Communi
ty College of the Ministry of Higher Education .

The closing ceremony of the tournament was officiated by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education Mustapha Sakmud at Dewan Muallim, PSAS, in Tanjung Malim, Perak.

According to the statement, the main objective of organising the tournament is to produce quality Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) graduates in various fields.

‘This tournament also provides further opportunities for students, especially the crowned winners, to champion the country’s credentials at the international level through the organisation of FIRA (Federation of International Robot-soccer Association; formed 1995 in South Korea) RoboWorld competitions,’ it said.
