PM Urges More Tourism Promotion to Boost Economic Growth

Phnom Penh: Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has encouraged all stakeholders to promote Cambodian tourism more actively as tourism is one of the main priority sectors to ensure the country's development and sustainable growth. Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Ministry of Tourism's annual meeting, held here this afternoon, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet asked all citizens to help promote the positive aspects of Cambodia, while relevant institutions should organise various events, especially during the green season, previously called low season.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, H.E. Huot Hak, Minister of Tourism, stated that Cambodia expects to receive up to 7.5 million foreign tourists this year. In 2024, the Kingdom welcomed 6.7 million foreign tourists, marking a year-on-year increase of 22.9 percent, and attracted 22.52 million domestic tourism movements, up 22 percent.

The influx of foreign tourists generated US$3.637 million, a year-on-year increase of 18 percent. The tourism industry contributed 9.4 percent to Cambodia's gross domestic product (GDP) last year, making the sector one of the key drivers in the country's economy.

At the same time, Samdech Thipadei Prime Minister urged the Ministry of Tourism to pay attention to strengthening and responding to the context of global issues by prioritising peace and stability. In addition, he reminded the Ministry of Tourism of the importance of domestic tourism besides the foreign one.
