Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has expressed his high appreciation for the work achievements of the Ministry of Information and his strong support for the mmnistry's commitment for reform. Addressing the closing ceremony of the two-day annual meeting held here at Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel and Residence this afternoon, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said institutional modernisation, especially in this digital age, as well as other initiated reforms have been put in place to further enhance and improve the Kingdom's media landscape. 'Information is a catalyst for social realities and real development. Media has been actively involved in strengthening democracy on the basis of the rule of law, conveying real and timely information, educating and social monitoring,' he said. Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said media is the fourth power, and this power is so important, when it was used properly. According to the Premier, Media is crucial in ensuring peace, stability, and development of t he nation. It also can empower the people in decision making as well as the Royal Government in setting out effective measures to respond to the urgent need of the public. For his part, H.E. Neth Pheaktra, Minister of Information, said the ministry will further enhance all medias to assure Information security, focusing on the access to information, quality of information, and safety of information. Cambodia has in total some 10,000 journalists, about 4,000 of them have registered. There are now 933 online TVs and websites, 447 newspapers, 52 journalism associations, 194 magazines, 21 bulletins, 113 printing houses, 27 foreign news agencies and representative offices, 283 FM radio stations, and 19 TV channels in Cambodia.
