KUCHING, The Selangor swimming squad want to make waves at the Para Malaysia Games (Para SUKMA) 2024, setting their sights on bettering their previous haul of 14 gold medals from the last edition in Kuala Lumpur. Team manager, Intan Diana Mohd Baki, is confident that despite introducing 11 new swimmers out of the 16-man squad, Selangor can achieve their ambitious target of 15 gold medals in Sarawak. 'We had some classification changes today for a few of our swimmers, but judging from the competition, I believe we can still bring home those golds. 'The most important thing is for them to hit their personal bests. I don't want them to feel the pressure; we've prepared thoroughly with training camps, intensive sessions and specialised programmes,' she told Bernama during the classification session at the Pandalela Rinong Aquatic Centre here. However, Intan did express disappointment over the decision to drop four events from the competition, events that had been considered Selangor's gold-medal strongholds. 'Sarawak will be fielding a large number of athletes on their home turf, which makes it more challenging in our pursuit of the top spot," she added. Source: BERNAMA News Agency
