NEC Releases the List of Newly-elected Members of National Assembly

The National Election Committee of Cambodia (NEC) this morning released the official list of the 125 newly-elected lawmakers for the 7th legislature of the National Assembly (NA).

Among the newly-elected lawmakers, Samdech Akka Moha Ponhea Chakrei Heng Samrin, Honorary President of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP), is the eldest with 89 years old, followed by Samdech Chaufea Veang Kong Sam Ol, a senior CPP member, 86 years old, while the youngest ones are H.E. Nhoeun Raden, 37 years old and H.E. Neang Channak, 39 years old; both of them are from the royalist FUNCINPEC Party.

Moreover, 16 out of 125 are female lawmakers, and they all are CPP members, added NEC.

According to the official results announced by NEC on state-run media and NEC’s media platform this morning, CPP won 6,398,311 of the total 7,774,276 valid votes, or 120 of the 125 NA seats, while the FUNCINPEC Party gained 716,490 votes or the remaining 5 seats.

The other 16 participating political parties could not have enough votes to obtain a seat in the 7th legislature of the National Assembly.

There were in total 8,214,430 votes cast, of which 440,154 were invalid.

The 7th National Election took place on July 23 in 23,789 polling stations throughout the country under the witness of nearly 100,000 national and international observers who concluded that this election was conducted smoothly and orderly in a free, fair and transparent manner.
