Navy special warfare forces conduct wintertime training

SEOUL, The Navy said Wednesday its special force units have been staging wintertime training to bolster their readiness posture against rising North Korean threats. The training of the underwater demolition team (UDT) and Navy Sea, Air, and Land Teams (SEAL) kicked off on Jan. 16 for a 10-day run on the eastern coast in Gangwon Province, the Navy said. Special warfare commandos carried out a maritime infiltration on a rubber boat in the East Sea and mobility exercises on mountain training grounds and snowfields to hone their skills to infiltrate, search and repel enemies. The Navy said the drill was aimed at bolstering the special forces' readiness amid heightened tensions over North Korea's nuclear and missile threats, live-fire drills near the western sea border and a recent test of an underwater nuclear attack drone in the East Sea.
