The President of the National Assembly (NA) of Cambodia welcomes initiatives of the European Union (EU) to strengthen parliamentary cooperation for peace and sustainable development. The NA president, Samdech Moha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, made the note during her meeting with H.E. Jan Zahradil, Member of the European Parliament and 1st Vice-Chair of the Committee on International Trade, in Phnom Penh on Jan. 12. Samdech Khuon Sudary appreciated the visit of H.E. Jan Zahradil to Cambodia as well as to Cambodia's parliament and to join a workshop to exchange views and experience to further expand the legislative relationship. According to the NA president, the Cambodia-EU relationship dates back to 1994 and was formalised in 1997. She appreciated that the EU is a major partner of Cambodia in terms of humanitarian work and trade, and it supported Cambodia with 499 million euros to contain COVID-19. The visit of H.E. Jan Zahradil to Cambodia is made at the invitation of the NA's Committee on F oreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Asian Development Outlook (ADO) to participate in a dialogue on "Cambodia-EU cooperation."
