Phnom penh: Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly (NA) of Cambodia, received a courtesy call from H.E. Lyu Yesheng, a member of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Leadership Group of the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People's Congress, on June 27.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the meeting was seen as a significant step in reinforcing the strong relationship between Cambodia and China, built on mutual trust and shared interests. Samdech Khuon Sudary acknowledged the important role Guangdong Province plays in fostering cooperation across multiple sectors.
Samdech Khuon Sudary recalled the historical foundation of Cambodia-China friendship, established during the leadership of His Majesty the late King Father Norodom Sihanouk, President Mao Zedong, and Premier Zhou Enlai. She noted that the relationship has strengthened under the leadership of Samdech Techo Hun Sen and H.E. Xi Jinping, and continues to flourish under Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet.
Highlighting recent developments, she mentioned a joint statement issued by Cambodia and China on 'Building an All-Weather Cambodia-China Community with a Shared Future in the New Era,' which aligns with China's Vision 2049. This vision aims to create a modern socialist country characterized by prosperity and harmony, a goal Cambodia supports.
She emphasized the enduring ties between the two countries, stating that China's success is also Cambodia's success. The Diamond Cooperation Framework adopted in 2023 focuses on six priority areas, including political cooperation and people-to-people exchanges.
Both sides reiterated their strong bond, marking 2025 as a year focused on promoting tourism to enhance people-to-people connections and comprehensive cooperation. H.E. Lyu Yesheng conveyed greetings from Guangdong's leadership and expressed appreciation for the meeting with Samdech Khuon Sudary.
He confirmed Guangdong's commitment to supporting Cambodia in trade, education, and infrastructure, highlighting significant economic cooperation, such as a 30 percent increase in investment from Guangdong. He mentioned the establishment of a production base in Preah Sihanouk province by BYD, a Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer.
Samdech Khuon Sudary praised Guangdong's achievements and its role in China's economic transformation, acknowledging the province's contributions to regional growth. Both parties expressed their commitment to deepening cooperation in education, health, and human resource development.
Samdech underscored the importance of this cooperation in supporting Cambodia's development goals to achieve upper-middle-income status by 2030 and high-income status by 2050. H.E. Lyu Yesheng invited Samdech Khuon Sudary to lead a Cambodian National Assembly delegation to Guangdong Province, an invitation she accepted with gratitude, reaffirming her support for strengthening ties through parliamentary diplomacy.
