N. Korea’s education minister embarks on Russia trip

A North Korean delegation led by Education Minister Kim Seung-doo departed for Russia on Friday for talks on education cooperation, Russian news agency TASS reported, citing the Russian embassy in Pyongyang.

Russia’s Ambassador to Pyongyang Alexander Matsegora saw off the delegation at Sunan International Airport in Pyongyang, according to the embassy on Telegram.

The embassy said Kim will hold discussions on ways to increase the quota of North Korean students in Russian education institutions, and raise the level of Korean classes in Russia and Russian classes in North Korea during his trip.

The delegation will first visit Russia’s far eastern port city of Vladivostok and then travel to Moscow, it said.

The trip marks the latest high-level trip of North Korean officials to Russia amid growing deepening ties since the summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong-un and Russian President Vladimir Putin last September.

In January, Russia’s Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui visited Russia to meet Putin, while a
North Korean delegation led by External Economic Relations Minister Yun Jong-ho visited Moscow last week.
