PUTRAJAYA, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has called for the monitoring of the effectiveness of the initiatives under the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan 2035 (PuTERA35) to ensure they reach the target groups. He said the measure of the effectiveness of the Bumiputera economic agenda should no longer be based solely on expenditure or allocation indicators, adding that it should focus on how cost-effective the programme is. '…the Cabinet has decided that the deputy secretary-general of policy in each ministry will monitor the implementation of the Bumiputera agenda in their respective ministries,' he told Bernama after PuTERA35 launch today. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim launched the plan, which includes three pillars aligned with the MADANI Economy: strengthening the nation's economic foundation, enhancing governance and institutional integrity, and upholding social justice. Ahmad Zahid said the government also wanted government departments, statutory bodies, gov ernment-linked companies, and government-linked investment companies to be involved in ensuring the implementation of PuTERA35, not just ministries. Meanwhile, he said the elements of Bumiputera ownership, participation, and control, particularly in equity, are core thrusts of PuTERA35. 'These three elements-ownership, participation, and control- are crucial in the economic aspect. They are also vital in other economic sectors and professional fields that have been outlined. So, we look at the achievements in various forms, particularly in terms of equity ownership,' he added. Speaking at the launch, Ahmad Zahid said implementing PuTERA35 would not marginalise other races of communities. Source: BERNAMA News Agency
