GEORGE TOWN, The Ministry of Education (MOE) is prepared to meet the parents or guardians of the student who was allegedly bullied at the Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK), recently.
The ministry has taken the appropriate action, and welcomes a meeting with the victim’s parents, said Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying.
“We understand what they must be going through, so if they want to meet we welcome them. We are open to discussions and will not take sides,” she told reporters after the “Anjung Ketipang Payung “ programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan Tan Sri P. Ramlee, here today.
She added that MOE also takes very seriously incidents of bullying, racism, and sexual harassment in schools and is determined to eradicate these issues.
Lim, who is also Tanjong Member of Parliament, was asked to comment on media reports quoting Kuala Kangsar Police Chief ACP Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob that police were investigating the bullying incident involving a student at the full boarding school.
Omar said the report involving a Form Four student being beaten up by his seniors was received on Sept 24.
Meanwhile, Perak Police Chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said the investigation under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt has been completed and handed over to the Deputy Public Prosecutor’s office on Monday.
“We have completed the investigations and handed it to the DPP on Monday, Nov 6. We are now waiting for their instruction,” he told Bernama.
